We’ve all felt it at some point in our lives. The feeling that there is so much to do and so little time. Or that the task seems so daunting we have no idea how were going to get it done. Sometimes its time sensitive. Other times its just something that we have been wanting to do but have been putting it off for one reason or another (hint its usually because the task seems so big).
So what do we do when this happens? We all have our own way of dealing with things. But for me it shows up as not doing anything at all. Or waiting until the last minute and using my adreneline to get it finished. And then realizing the thing I was certain would take me months only took a couple of hours.
Currently I am feeling like there is so much to do and not enough time to do it. With running a business and working full time. Wanting to clean my house, like a deep clean though not a surface clean. Spending time with the people I love, while also working on myself and giving myself me time.
It’s a lot ok. Sometimes we can feel like were being pulled in so many directions.
I believe we are all connected and I know that someone else in the world is struggling with overwhelm as well. So I wanted to share some tips that help me when I am feeling this way.
Listen I had a good cry. For me, crying is a release of energy. Rather than keeping it pent up, I released it. I took a nice long shower because to me symbolically that cleanses my soul. And after I felt great. Once I released everything, I was able to start thinking clearly again. What is something that helps you to clear your mind? For some people its spending time in nature, for others its doing something creative and for some its talking to someone.
Pick whatever it is that helps you and release the energy
Get Clarity:
So what is it that you are wanting to work on? Why are you wanting to work on this? And does it have to be done right now or is it something that can wait?
Ask yourself these questions too help you gain clarity about what it is that you want to do. A lot of times we put pressure on ourselves to do everything. In reality some things can wait. Of course we want to be able to do all the things. but realistically, we can’t always.
Once you have decided that this is something that you want to work on now. When is the deadline for this? Is it in a few weeks, is it a year, is it 5 years?
Have the deadline? Ok great.
Make a list of all of the things that you can think of that you need to get done to achieve this goal.
Now look at the big picture goal. If it is something like 5 years from now break it up into a yearly goal, a monthly goal, a weekly goal, a daily goal. The point is is to break it down into more manigible pieces. Because when we look at it from the big picture goal it can seem impossible to complete. It’s like that saying, “how was the Great Wall of china built? Brick by brick.”
The smaller you can break it down, the easier it will be to complete. And just focus on the one task at hand.
For me, I have a lot of things going on. And sometimes there a lot of little tasks that can be done. So I have to ask myself, what will make the biggest impact in moving me towards the bigger goal?
So for example, I have been wanting to deep clean my fridge for months now. But I have not had the time with everything going on. I also am trying to create content for my business. My big picture goal is to be full time with my business in 2 years. So, if I don’t have as much time as I would like to, I have to be really strategic with the time that I do have.
My top priority will be to work on my business. But the fridge still needs to be cleaned. I cannot clean it all at once. So I will break that down. This week I will go through the fridge and throw out any expired items, next week I will clean the top shelf, the next week the middle shelf, the week after that, the bottom shelf and then the drawers, and so on and so on until its complete.
Now that may seem silly, but doing something, no matter how small, is better than doing nothing. I’m done tolerating a dirty fridge. Something has to be done. So that’s my solution.
So get some clarity, make a list, break it down, what can you do today?
Do that one that. That’s it. Just that one thing.
Honestly, sometimes just making a list and writing it down can help our brain releave a little stress. Because it’s not trying to remember to remember that thing that we need to do. Just write it down, so you don’t have to worry about forgetting it.
Sometimes we want to do it all. And the reality is, that we can’t. There is always going to be something that needs to be done. The work never really ends. We have so many roles that we play in our lives and sometimes that means that we have to decide on this specific day, what is more important. But we have to focus on the one thing and that thing only. Or those couple little things. Not everything will always be done. And thats ok. So long as we did something.
All those little things will add up to the big things
And don’t forget to take a break and rest ladies. That’s important too. Because if we dont have energy, we’re going to end up procrastitinagin anyway. So might as well schedule some time guilt free, so you can just enjoy that time.
Now I want to end this by saying that even though we have broken the steps down and gotten some clarity, there is sometimes an underlying thing getting in the way of us accomplishing the thing we want. Sometimes we feel like its not possible for us or that we are not worthy of the things that we want. And if thats the case, then girl let me help you. Sometimes you need support in getting these things done and helping you get through your mental blocks.
Let’s hop on a call. I would love to support you, you dont have to do it alone.
